Real Madrid are looking to become the first team in over 40 years to win three consecutive Champions League or European Cups. On Saturday, Real face Liverpool at NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kiev, Ukraine in the Champions League final.

Real Madrid finished third in La Liga. After a slow start to the season and falling behind Barcelona in the title race, Real turned their attention to Champions League. In the semifinal, Real defeated Bayern Munich in the semifinal to advance to their four final in the past five years. Zinedine Zidane’s side are looking to become the first team to win three consecutive titles since Bayern Munich won three from 1974-1976. Cristiano Ronaldo has had another incredible season, scoring 44 goals in all competitions. No player in Champions League history has scored more goals than Ronaldo.

Zidane will stick with the same back four he has for most of the competition. However, he has a decision to make with how he lines up his midfield and strikers. Real could start a front two with Isco playing above the midfield three. Or they could line up with a front three and three-man midfield. Zidane’s ability to seamlessly change formations could be an advantage and allow for him to make better in-game adjustments.

Liverpool finished fourth in the Premier League, also turning their attention for the league title race to Champions League. Jurgen Klopp rode the incredible performance of Mohamed Salah to Liverpool’s first Champions League final since 2005 when they defeated AC Milan in the final. The Reds will lean on their front three of Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. The trio combined for 90 goals and 42 assists in all competitions this season. Liverpool hope the speed of their front three will cause problems for the Real defense.

While Liverpool’s attack can match any team in Europe, the question is their defense. Virgil van Dijk’s addition in January helped solidify the Reds’ defense midseason and reduce the number of mistakes that plagued the Reds earlier this season. Van Dijk will have to mark Ronaldo and prevent him from finding the back of the net.
