6. Memphis (White)
Over the last few seasons, the Memphis Tigers have made some noise throughout the college football world on multiple fronts. Even though Memphis has fielded a solid squad, they’ve sent sound waves throughout the college football world with their one-of-a-kind uniforms. The Tigers are one of the only teams in the nation that wear their mascot’s pattern proudly on their jersey. For that reason, they find themselves inching ever-so-close to the top five.
The Memphis white jersey is a majority white with a hint of the school’s primary color. The odd thing is the grey — Memphis’ secondary color — is nowhere be found. While the jersey still looks spiffy without it, the story behind the school’s colors is what makes fans yearn for grey on this top. The school’s colors — blue and grey — were chosen by the students in the early 1900’s. These colors represent each side of the Civil War and the Memphis student body chose these colors in order to show unity amongst the school. While this is a cool gesture, the white jersey looks fine without one half of the equation.
The Memphis white uniforms display all royal blue lettering and numbering. Further, the school’s name spelled out across the chest is in its own special font. Even left at that, the jersey is still pretty stunning. However, there’s more to it. The jersey also features blue tiger stripes across the sleeves. While this seems like it would be a pretty common thing to do on uniforms, Memphis is one of the only schools to do it. The jerseys look really clean as the use of only two colors allows the details on the uniform to pop. Factor in the tiger stripe themed helmet, Memphis has one of the best uniform combinations in the country.
