2. Max Meyer

This one is straight out of left field, but makes more sense than you think.

Meyer was recently suspended by Schalke, and is set to leave the club in the summer. The 22-year-old is crafty, normally playing as a number 10, he’s had to play deeper in Domenico Tedesco’s 3-4-3 system. He’s had an underwhelming season after playing 24 games without scoring and assisting in any.

A change of scenery will help, and United could be that team for him to flourish. Should Mourinho go with the 4-2-3-1, Meyer can fit in as either a holding midfielder or a number 10 behind Lukaku. In a 4-3-3, he’ll be the box-to-box midfielder cover that’ll look to drive at the heart of his opponents.

With his contract expiring in the summer, it sounds logical for United to take the chance to bring in Meyer on a free. Plus, depth is a necessity in midfield and is key to Manchester United fighting for trophies.

This team is in need of a mass exodus, some new fresh faces are in need making an instant impact. Now as mentioned before, this is straight out of left field. It’s unlikely a move happens, but it’d be smart to take a chance on this. Imagine all the gloating Mourinho would do if Meyer was sparkling under him, all on a free transfer.
