Jason Terry, 2013

Part two of the Jason Terry saga is not as happy or successful as part one was. Perhaps still riding the high of his NBA championship, Terry decided after he signed with the Boston Celtics in 2012 that he would go out and win another championship.

While this boneheaded move paid off the first time, he was now up against a hungry Heat team that had figured out how to play together and more importantly, how to win a championship.

The Celtics assembled a team that might have been good in 2006, but were too old and run down to come close in 2012-13. They finished the season 41-40 and were ousted by the New York Knicks in the first round of the post-season.

To add insult to injury, Terry was dropping off at a torrid pace. His averages had dipped and he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets the following season in what was one of the most one-sided trades in NBA history. Terry briefly contemplated a Brooklyn Nets tattoo but thankfully came to his senses, as we all know the Nets will never win the Larry O’Brien trophy.

Jason Terry most likely still has the Celtics tattoo on his arm, which you should make fun of him for if you ever meet him. He’s one-for-two when calling championship shots though, which is probably better than you can say.

Perhaps he can convince the Celtics organization to sign him to a 10-day contract in 2019 when Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward are healthy and pushing for a title.
