Chicago Cubs fan, 2016

Not all these tattoos are misses. A Chicago Cubs fan took the ultimate gamble in 2016 when he tattooed himself with a “curse is broken” Cubs World Series championship tattoo.

The fact that he actually had this tattoo done would lead us to question his fandom. Would a legitimate Cubs fan who lived his entire life in one of the greatest curses in sports history chance cursing his team with this tattoo? Imagine if they had lost? This guy would have immediately joined Steve Bartman and the curse of the Billy Goat on the short list of infamous Cubs incidents.

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t that bad. But neither was the Bartman incident. Cubs fans are delusional if they think that mishandled foul ball was the reason the Cubs had a colossal break-down and gave up eight runs to the Florida Marlins in the inning and win the game 8-3. The Cubs were up 3-0 in the eighth inning and lost 8-3. This was not a World Series-capable team.

The Cubs won the world series in 2016 and broke a 108-year curse. In doing so, they made this fan a local hero. Arguably the “ballsiest” tattoo on this list given the history, the downfall if the Cubs had lost that year would have been insurmountable.

Instead, this fan will be showing off his ink for years to come. He’ll be a Wrigleyville hero until the day he dies. Sometimes these tattoos do pay off. So why not take a chance and get one yourself.

(Please don’t.)
