FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Tuesday, May 29
Welcome into the Tuesday edition of the FanDuel daily fantasy baseball column! We have a giant 14 game slate on hadn’t for tonight so let’s jump in!
Yesterday continued our hot streak as the early lineup cashed quite easily. We fought the chalk of Mike Trout and Bryce Harper with a massive day out of Andrew Benintendi and Jacob deGrom. They both cleared 40 FanDuel points and carried us without any issue. Evan Gattis and Yario Munoz also smashed their salaries and that’s always useful. Tonight is a bit of an oddity as we have almost every team in action but not one pitcher over $9,900. Let’s keep things going on a 14 game monster!
Cubs at Pirates
Cubs Probable Starter – Jon Lester, LHP
2.37 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 20.5 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .222 average, .256 wOBA, 35.3 fly ball rate and 27.8 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .220 average, .303 wOBA, 39.7 fly ball rate and 33.6 hard contact rate
I really don’t think I’m going to have a big part of this game on either side. Lester is an unexciting option for fantasy at this point with a lower strikeout rate than normal. The Pirates lineup rates well against lefties but Lester isn’t exactly the lefty to target. Pittsburgh can be very unsteady offensively and there’s another factor in this game. It’s odd that Lester is the cheaper pitcher in this game but I’m still not terribly tempted.
Yesterday, Anthony Rizzo slid into home plate on a controversial play. The Pirates had a chance to retaliate if they wanted to but didn’t. If they do it tonight, it could cause a dust up. Beware that’s a small possibility when rostering anyone tonight. If you want to stack against Lester, Francisco Cervelli, Austin Meadows, Sean Rodriguez and Starling Marte would be in play. Marte would be almost a slam dunk to steal a base if he gets on base. It’s a huge slate and there’s plenty of offenses in better spots.
Pirates Hitters to Target
Elite Options – None
Secondary Options – Francisco Cervelli, Austin Meadows, Sean Rodriguez, Starling Marte
Pirates Probable Starter – Nick Kingham, RHP
3.44 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 30.4 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .172 average, .207 wOBA, 21.7 fly ball rate and 34.8 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .184 average, .255 wOBA, 43.5 fly ball rate and 43.5 hard contact rate
Kingham looked phenomenal in his first career start but hasn’t been able to replicate that feat in his other two starts since then. This likely isn’t the spot to try and use him either as the Cubs offense could have another big day. They can bludgeon any pitcher out there. Anthony Rizzo is really heating up but remember, there’s a reasonable chance he’s going to wear a fastball today. We won’t get too bogged down in the splits on a short sample size for Kingham. The power bats like Javier Baez, Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber are the primary targets if you go with Chicago hitters. Schwarber should have had a home run yesterday if it wasn’t for Corey Dickerson stealing it away.
