3. Sleeping (and showering) with the Cup

The Stanley Cup is the ultimate “puck bunny.”

Over the years, countless players have slept with the Stanley Cup. New York Islanders great Bryan Trottier said that he would sleep wit the Cup after the Islanders dynasty seasons in the 1980s.

It makes sense. Nothing would match the high of winning the Cup, except perhaps waking up next to it in the morning and realizing it was all real. Many players over the years have slept with Lord Stanley, including Sidney Crosby.

Some players decide to pass on the sleep part though, like Detroit Red Wings star Steve Yzerman who partied all night instead. After winning the Cup in 1997, Steve Yzerman was too excited to sleep. He stayed up, partied then took a shower with the Stanley Cup.

Yzerman has always been known as a nice guy and offering to clean the Cup as he cleaned himself is yet another sign of how good of a dude he is. Hopefully the shower was earlier in the evening, as both him and the Cup wouldn’t be smelling too great after a victory celebration.

Take notes, Mark Messier.
