DraftKings Early MLB Picks May 30: Can Corbin outscore Kluber?

We have another lopsided Wednesday with only four afternoon games. The weird start time on the Yankees and Astros has that only available in showdown mode. That said, it’s only a half hour before the rest of the games start. Just throw it into the main tournament! There are some great players that we are missing out on in that one! Back to the afternoon, we have a couple of ace type pitchers and a whole lot of question marks. Will stats help clear any of that up? Let’s find out!

We have a chance of rain in Cleveland today, but a delay should be as bad as it gets. The game shouldn’t be under any threat of a cancellation.

There will be a steady 12 mph wind blowing in from right at Fenway. A 15 mph wind will be blowing out to right in Cleveland, which could mean a few more flying out of Progressive Field.

We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!

These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. Stacking against a bad pitcher is always a good idea!

CLEVELAND, OH – MAY 25: Corey Kluber #28 of the Cleveland Indians pitches in the third inning against the Houston Astros at Progressive Field on May 25, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by Joe Robbins/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Corey Kluber ($12,200): Kluber’s stats against Chicago really aren’t that good. However, if you take out what Abreu has done to him, the Sox sans Abreu are just 12-65(.185) with one homer and two runs to go with 23 strikeouts. So all Kluber needs to do is walk Abreu three times and dominate the rest of these guys. That seems simple enough.

Patrick Corbin ($10,900): The Reds are only hitting .237 off of Corbin in 76 at bats with only one homer, six runs, and 23 strikeouts. When you take into account his 2.03 ERA in six home starts this year, Corbin is less of a risk than Kluber, and will come about $1,300 cheaper so you can stack Corbin’s offense against Romano. It’s an Arizona day!

Middle Tier:

Alex Reyes ($7,000): The reports going around that Reyes wont be on a pitch limit for his 2018 debut in Milwaukee is welcome news, especially with Reyes at this price. His strikeout upside is enormous, as you can see by the 44 strikeouts he had in 23 AAA innings in his rehab assignment. Milwaukee has some power, and I do expect a little rust on Reyes, but he could rack up double digit strikeouts in five or six innings. The upside is very high for the price.

Bargain Pitchers:

Sam Gaviglio ($4,200): You aren’t going to get a lot of anything out of Gaviglio, but he did put up 10.7 DraftKings points in his start against Boston earlier this year. Now that he is more stretched out, there is a chance that Gaviglio goes deep enough to get the win in this one. It’s a risk using him against Boston, but if you can get double digit points out of Gaviglio again, that’s a good return for the price.

Top Tier:

I’m not a huge fan of using Red Sox against Gaviglio with the way he is pitching, but to ignore Andrew Benintendi and the way he has been hitting would be foolish as well. Moreland could be worth a look since he hits righties well, and if Mookie makes his return, a well-rested Mookie could do some damage here.

Reynaldo Lopez has solid numbers on the year, and his career marks against the current team are pretty good. That said, Lopez has struggled on the road this year, so using a couple of Cleveland players likely isn’t a bad idea. Lindor and Jose Ramirez look good. Melky Cabrera is the only Cleveland player with a RBI off of Lopez thus far.

Strikeouts don’t count against us, so Travis Shaw and Christian Yelich are on my radar in the return of Alex Reyes here. Lorenzo Cain too if you feel like Reyes will struggle in his 2018 debut.

Middle Tier:

Eduardo Rodriguez turned in a quality start against Toronto earlier this year, but he still gave up three runs in that game and his career numbers against Toronto aren’t great. Yangervis Solarte, Russell Martin, and Kendrys Morales all have homers off of Rodriguez, and Martin, Morales, and Kevin Pillar all have three RBI. Using a Blue Jay or three shouldn’t be a bad idea.

Jose Abreu is 16-45(.356) with four walks, three doubles, five homers, eight runs, and a whopping 12 RBI off of Kluber already. He is the only White Sox player I would consider, and honestly, it’s going to be hard for me not to use Abreu at this point.

The Diamondbacks offense is waking up in this series against the Reds, and I am stacking them against Sal Romano while they are still affordable. Jake Lamb, Paul Goldschmidt, Chris Owings, David Peralta, Ketel Marte, some catcher, Nick Ahmed. All of them. Whatever I can fit.

Bargain Shoppers:

Junior Guerra has been pretty good against most teams so far in his major league experience, but the Cardinals are not one of them. Both Dexter Fowler and Marcell Ozuna have taken Guerra deep in his career, and they are both at bargain price. So is Kolten Wong, who has also homered off of Guerra, and often finds himself batting leadoff. Tommy Pham and Matt Carpenter are worth a look as well if you want to make this a full blown stack.
