DraftKings Main MLB Picks May 30: Is it a Scherzer fade night?

There are ten games in the main tournament tonight with the Yankees-Astros earlier start time being exiled to showdown. However, there is an all day tournament so we can still get in on that action with classic formatting along with the solid day pitchers. We have a couple of aces tonight as well and an interesting middle tier. Who can help us win some cash? Let’s sort through this!

More from DFS

The rain chance in Baltimore is mostly late, so as long as the game gets done in a timely fashion, it will finish. Detroit and Atlanta will be dodging storms all night. The biggest chance of a postponement is likely in Detroit.

We have a 12 mph wind blowing in from right in Pittsburgh and a 15 mph wind in from left in Detroit. We have one of our highest winds of the year, a 22 mph wind blowing out to right in Oakland.

We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!

These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. Stacking against a bad pitcher is always a good idea!

SEATTLE, WA – MAY 25: James Paxton #65 of the Seattle Mariners pitches during the first inning against the Minnesota Twins during their game at Safeco Field on May 25, 2018 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Abbie Parr/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Max Scherzer ($13,900): The Orioles are sure glad that Scherzer is in the NL now. They are only hitting .220 against Max, but they do have seven homers and 15 runs in 150 at bats. The 59 strikeouts shows just how good Scherzer can be. He will still come up with a good score here, but if Scherzer gives up three run here, he wont be worth what we pay for him. After all, we have to try to find a way to put together a Coors Stack. That’s hard to do when paying for Scherzer.

James Paxton ($11,700): Paxton did struggle against the Mariners earlier this year, but it’s hard to ignore what Paxton has done lately. Paxton has at least 36 DraftKings points in four of the last five games. He has a stellar 2.67 ERA at home this year. Texas did their damage in Arlington. The more I think about this, the more I like Paxton tonight.

Shohei Ohtani ($11,200): The Tigers offense has been pretty awful for the last two weeks. There is a ton of potential here for Ohtani who doesn’t make a lot of mistakes. He can rack up the strikeouts in a big hurry as well. This looks like a perfect place to roll the rookie out there. He could dominate Detroit.

Middle Tier:

Kyle Hendricks ($8,400): The Pirates are hitting a solid .268 against Hendricks, but they only have five homers and 12 runs in 149 at bats. The bad news for those of you considering Hendricks is the very low total of 25 strikeouts. Hendricks did strike out seven Pirates earlier this year, and put up a strong 18.7 DraftKings points against them. Due to the mostly average numbers, I think I like Hendricks better for cash games. There doesn’t appear to be a whole lot of upside here.

Sean Manaea ($8,300): Manaea has hit a rough patch here lately, but the Rays should cure what ails him. They are hitting a decent .250 against Manaea, but they have only one run in 32 at bats with six strikeouts. This is the best matchup Manaea has had in quite some time, so I’m willing to overlook his recent struggles in a couple of lineups to see what we can get from Manaea for this price.

Fernando Romero ($7,800): The wheels haven’t fallen off of Romero yet, and it doesn’t seem likely that they will here. Romero has a stellar 1.88 ERA in five starts. It is down to just 1.50 in three road starts. We saw Gibson pitch well against the Royals last night, and Romero looks a lot better than Gibson. Look for another strong outing at worst from Romero tonight. There is quite a bit of potential at this price, though Romero has not gone deep in a game yet. That does limit his upside.

Bargain Pitchers:

Jon Gray ($7,500): Gray got knocked around by the Giants at sea level, but he has pitched very well at home lately. Over his last four home starts, Gray has averaged 25.7 DraftKings points per start. I’ll take the risk here since I don’t think the Giants can do what they did to him earlier this season again.

Ross Stripling ($7,300): Stripling has topped 30 DraftKings points in each of his last two starts. One of those was against the Nationals! He is pitching very well right now, and the Phillies don’t really scare me. Stripling has 26 strikeouts over just 18 innings in his three starts. There is significant upside here.

Joe Musgrove ($6,900): Musgrove’s 2018 debut was a really good one. He just might keep it up. The current Cubs are just 1-14 off of him with the one hit being a two run homer by Kris Bryant. Musgrove is cheap enough that he is worth taking a chance on here. This is a pretty good Cubs offense, but I really did like what we saw from Musgrove last week. Enough to have some exposure to him.

MILWAUKEE, WI – MAY 26: Brandon Nimmo #9 of the New York Mets celebrates with teammates after hitting a home run in the second inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on May 26, 2018 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (Photo by Dylan Buell/Getty Images) /

Washington Nationals vs. David Hess:

Hess looked good last week against the Rays, but I have my doubts that he can handcuff the likes of Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, Juan Soto, Anthony Rendon, and Matt Adams like that. That looks like a really good five player stack if you don’t want to pay up for Rockies.

New York Mets vs. Julio Teheran:

Yeah, I know. The Mets offense is a wreck. I get it. I could argue that Teheran is even worse. Teheran has a 5.54 ERA at home. Brandon Nimmo and Jay Bruce are definitely on my radar. So is Corforto, slump or not. Amed Rosario is worth playing as well. So is Mesoraco. That is a cheap enough stack that you can plug and play around Rockies and still afford decent pitching.

Minnesota Twins vs. Brad Keller:

Okay, this isn’t an attack on Keller in particular. He will likely only last once through the order. This is an attack on the Royals bullpen as a whole. Miguel Sano, aka the Royal Pain, is definitely going to be in my lineup tonight. I also like Dozier, Eduardo Escobar, Eddie Rosario, and Byron Buxton on the cheap. Even Grossman and Garver are worth a look tonight.

Colorado Rockies vs. Derek Holland:

This is a gift from the baseball Gods. A soft tossing lefty at Coors. Charlie Blackmon can hit lefties well enough. Arenado and Story destroy lefties. Chris Iannetta and Ian Desmond will round off my Rockies stack, though a pivot to Parra isn’t a terrible idea. Parra does struggle some against lefties, but Holland wont be in there past the fifth inning anyway. Anyone who plays for the Rockies or who has even thought about playing for the Rockies is in play here.

Oakland Athletics vs. Nathan Eovaldi:

Eovaldi is back in the majors, and that may not be a good thing. The A’s are hitting .440 off of Eovaldi in 25 at bats, and we have our highest sustained winds blowing out of any park tonight. Even without Davis, Oakland could have a big night! Lucroy, Marcus Semien, Jed Lowrie, Matt Joyce, and Dustin Fowler are definitely on my radar. So are Matt Chapman and Matt Olson are as well.

Miami Marlins vs. Clayton Richard:

Richard has been somewhat less awful at home, but there is enough right handed power on this team to consider a cheap stack. It has to start with Realmuto. Starlin Castro, Miguel Reyes, and Brian Anderson are definitely worth a look. Even Justin Bour might be worth using here.

PITTSBURGH, PA – MAY 17: Gregory Polanco #25 of the Pittsburgh Pirates celebrates after scoring on an error in the seventh inning against the San Diego Padres during the game at PNC Park on May 17, 2018 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Mike Fiers hasn’t been bad enough to stack against, and I’m not all that sure that he has been bad enough to pay $6k for Trout either, though Trout does have a homer and five RBI off of him. Valbuena, Kole Calhoun, and Ian Kinsler have all homered off of Fiers as well. Albert Pujols has done it twice. You can pick any two of those and not end up paying more than $500 more than you would for just Trout. Just some food for thought.

Not part of me completely trusts Jon Gray. He’s still going to give up a few runs. Brandon Crawford and Andrew McCutchen are good picks to sprinkle in with your healthy helping of Rockies.

More from FanSided

Middle Tier:

Gregory Polanco is 10-25 with two homers, five steals, and three RBI in his career against Kyle Hendricks. Adam Frazier and Sean Rodriguez have also taken Hendricks deep in his career. Josh Harrison is 7-18(.389) with a solo homer and a steal.

Left handed pitchers do have an advantage at SunTrust Park, and not just because the Braves are heavy on righties. Vargas has been serviceable this year for the Mets, but Markakis can hit anyone. Both Kurt Suzuki and Tyler Flowers have homered off of Vargas, so my catcher will be wearing a Braves uniform. I like Ozzie Albies quite a bit as well.

Zach Eflin is starting to come back to earth, and the Dodgers have four homers off of him in just 26 at bats. Bellinger, Matt Kemp, Utley, and Grandal are the one that have taken Eflin deep. Mix and match from those four tonight, though I’m not sure I would use all of them.

Yes, I know that Stripling is pitching well, but Cesar Hernandez is on fire right now. He is always worth a look!

Bargain Shoppers:

I’m not going to stack against Scherzer, but Adam Jones is definitely going to be in there for me. Jones is 13-29(.448) with three doubles, four homers, nine runs, and five RBI in his career against Scherzer. Chris Davis is a soldi 9-27 with a homer and two RBI if you are looking for another cheap bat.

Ryon Healy is the only Mariner to homer off of Matt Moore so far. Gordon Beckham, Mitch Haniger, Jean Segura, Mike Zunino, and Guillermo Heredia are all in play here with a lefty on the mound. Beware stackers though. The Mariners are only hitting .235 against Moore so far.

Robinson Chirinos is the only current Ranger to hit a homer off of James Paxton, but it is his only hit in seven at bats.

Jose Urena has been pretty good this year, but the Padres are starting to hit. Freddy Galvis, Franmil Reyes, and Travis Jankowski are worth a look for the power potential alone.
