At 30 years old, Kam Chancellor has made enough money for multiple lifetimes. With his health intact, Chancellor should leave the game he loves.

Last year, Seattle Sehawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters that he would be surprised if Kam Chancellor played football again. Chancellor, who sustained a neck injury in November, missed the rest of the 2017 season and is yet to participate in OTAs this year.

At 30 years old, the former All-Pro believes he can still play at a high level, provided his body holds up. Ultimately, the end of the previous sentence is the catch. If his body holds up.

Why risk what is the most important part of our beings as humans? Without our bodies working properly, we can’t live a full life. At this juncture, Chancellor should be financially set forever, perhaps even able to set up the next few generations.

Undoubtedly, it has to be brutal to leave a game that you can never return to. Chancellor has geared his entire life toward becoming an incredible player at the peak of his profession, only to see an injury rob him of that prolonged dream. Chancellor did at least accomplish that goal, all while appearing in two Super Bowls while winning one.

Now, the superstar has to move on and find his next calling while his neck remains solid and his body intact.  Seattle can move on without him, just as it is without Richard Sherman, Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril. Time waits for nobody, and NFL teams certainly don’t either. As great as Chancellor was — and perhaps still is — the time is now for Chancellor to walk into the proverbial sunset before it’s too late.
