Rangers at Mariners

Rangers Probable Starter – Matt Moore, LHP

7.99 ERA, 2.02 WHIP and 15.7 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .429 average, .514 wOBA, 54.2 fly ball rate and 54.2 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .325 average, .394 wOBA, 37.5 fly ball rate and 46.1 hard contact rate

There are way too many offenses in smash spots today and I think this slate might be very high scoring. Moore has been putrid and is coming off the disabled list, meaning he’s a non-starter for me. The two hitters that stand out right away are Nelson Cruz and Jean Segura, both of who are an affordable $3,200 and $3,300. Mitch Haniger has been cold but is down to $3,500. It could be a challenge to fit everyone into my lineup that I want to, but the Mariners are a great value this evening.

Mariners Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Nelson Cruz, Jean Segura, Mitch Haniger, Denard Span

Secondary Options – Mike Zunino, Ryon Healy, Kyle Seager

Mariners Probable Starter – James Paxton, LHP

3.10 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 32.7 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .372 average, .482 wOBA, 36.7 fly ball rate and 30.0 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .147 average, .203 wOBA, 47.7 fly ball rate and 33.6 hard contact rate

This is especially true since Paxton is $2,000 cheaper than Max Scherzer, but I actually think Paxton is going to be the best pitcher on this slate. I think he’ll score the most points of any pitcher and even if he doesn’t, he’ll get close enough to Scherzer that Paxton winds up being the better play. Texas strikes out right around 27 percent of the time against lefties and that’s right in the wheelhouse for Paxton. If you wanted to go very contrarian, take a stab at Nomar Mazara or Shin-soo Choo. Paxton is struggling with lefties for some reason and both those hitters hit lefty pitching well. Other than that, it’s all Paxton on this side of the game. My big goal of the day is to jam him in with Coors and Mariners bats, but it remains to be seen if that can be pulled off.
