5. Jed Lowrie

The AL seems pretty set in stone. The Red Sox/Yankees, Indians, and Astros will be the division winners, with the Red Sox/Yankees and Mariners/Angels taking the Wild Card spots. The Athletics are currently sitting 5.5 games out of the Wild Card and shouldn’t expect to ascend the standings rapidly anytime soon.

Billy Beane and David Forst have been around long enough to realize that and should be looking to trade their assets. Jed Lowrie is their best one. He is in the last year of his contract, and at 34 years old, it is unlike the A’s bring him back for another year. Lowrie is coming through for them as his .303 batting average has made him easily tradeable. He would be able to come in and be a table setter for the Mets on offense, so they aren’t only hitting solo home runs anymore.

His fit once Todd Frazier returns would be tough to find. Perhaps with his limited range, Asdrubal Cabrera could play first base. However, the Mets need to improve their infield depth and Lowrie exact hitter they need. To It would probably cost the Mets Peter Alonso or Mark Vientos so the A’s could continue to bolster their farm system.
