1. Chris Archer

Chris Archer is the best possible starter for the Mets to acquire. He has the ability to replace Matt Harvey in the fab five dream rotation. His reasonably priced club options through 2021 make him a long term solution for the Mets instead of a rental to patch up whats broken this year. Unfortunately, this makes him expensive and subject to a bidding war, but the Mets should pony up and pay what they have to for him.

A staff lead by DeGrom, Syndergaard, and Archer would be formidable, and if the Mets can make the postseason would be able to win a lot of series. His run of the mill numbers are subject of his cold start, but recently he has been dominant.

He’s given up 1 run in his last 18.2 innings. That is the Chris Archer who finished 5th in the Cy Young voting in 2015. Archer is primed to dominate again and the Mets need that. He was able to have a more effective slider, seeing the batting average against it steadily drop, which is what has been part of this turn around he has experienced. Using it more has helped, and it begs the question if there is any other simple changes that can make him even better.

It is time for the Mets to bring him in and getting the pitching staff results they expected. It would take at least Justin Dunn, Thomas Szapucki, and Desmond Lindsay. Hopefully, the Mets would be able to keep Zach Wheeler out of the deal, but he may be necessary. Chris Archer would be the big splash Sandy Alderson is afraid of making, but needs to.
