Capitals’ Braden Holtby is a Greek God with the hockey save of the century
By Tre LyDay
Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final was just as crazy as Game 1, and the Washington Capitals’ Braden Holtby made the save of the century late in the third period.
After Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, one thing was absolutely certain. Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby had to be better. He surrendered five goals in Game 1 — six in total if you count the empty netter to effectively seal the deal.
From the opening puck drop, Holtby was engaged and ready to go for a pivotal Game 2 in Las Vegas. After the Capitals took a 3-2 lead into the third period, Holtby took control of this game.
He came up with saves in a matter of three minutes during a 5-on-3 power play into a 5-on-4 power play for the Vegas Golden Knights. After nearly 10 minutes of no shots on goal for the Knights the Caps needed one more crucial save by Holtby, and boy did he come up huge.
Every hockey fan knows that if the puck ever shoots out into the middle of the ice when it looks like it’s going to go around the horn, then it’s going to cause problems. It very nearly, did as the Knights tried to go tic-tac-toe between the boards, Cody Eakin and Alex Tuch.

With a wide open net in front of him Tuch let it rip and by the grace of the hockey gods and the shaft of his stick Holtby came up with the greatest save in franchise history. Even teammate Alex Ovechkin had to breathe a huge sigh of relief as this game was all but tied.
That save was just one of 37 Holtby had on the night, and led the Caps to a 3-2 victory to tie the series at one heading back to Washington D.C. for Game 3 on Saturday night.
Who knows what tricks Holtby has up his sleeve next.
