What Matt Campbell was able to do with the Iowa State Cyclones last year was nothing short of miraculous. He took a program that was usually at or near the bottom of the Big 12 standings for the better part of the past five years and turned it into a contender for a conference title.

In fact, Iowa State knocked off the two best teams in the Big 12 last season in the Oklahoma Sooners and TCU Horned Frogs. If Iowa State had held on down the stretch, we might be talking about Campbell and the Clones in an even brighter light than we already are now.

The coolest thing that Campbell did with Iowa State since that huge 2017 campaign was actually staying with the program when he was one of the hottest names on the coaching market. There were a ton of high-profile job openings at the end of the regular season and on into the off-season, but Campbell decided to stay in Ames, IA.

Now, Iowa State enters the 2018 season as one of the better teams in the Big 12, looking to stay in contention for the conference title this year. Iowa State fans can directly thank Campbell for that turnaround since he came over from a job that he was already doing well in with the Toledo Rockets.
