Since the departure of former Memphis Tigers head coach Justin Fuente, the new coaching regime has done pretty well. Fuente took this Memphis program to a good level, consistently competing at the top end of the American Athletic Conference, and the current head coach Mike Norvell was able to keep it there now.

Norvell took over for Fuente after he bolted for the Virginia Tech Hokies following the 2015 regular season. He was the offensive coordinator under Todd Graham with the Arizona State Sun Devils. That hire continued to make the Memphis offense successful even without Fuente’s presence.

This is the ideal pick for one of the “cooler’ head coaches among the Power Five schools since he is all about offense and scoring. He’s also one of the youngest head coaches in the nation which makes him an ideal prospect to eventually land a solid Power Five job opening that could come along soon.

There’s a lot of things to like about Norvell, which makes him the first coach on this list. He just needs to keep the Tigers at the current level the program is at now, or even elevate it to the next level, and he’ll continue to be popular with that fan base.
