The former Texas A&M Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin is about to take over a dark horse contender in the Pac-12 South, with possibly the most polarizing player in the entire country under center. The departure of Lamar Jackson of the Louisville Cardinals might place Arizona Wildcats quarterback Khalil Tate as the most exciting player in college football.

That’s an exciting prospect for a coach like Sumlin who just got out of a very pressure-intense position year in and year out, sitting at the helm in the SEC West with the Aggies. He took the Aggies to a respectable status in the SEC West, but the mediocrity of the program down the stretch of most regular seasons ultimately cost him his job.

However, Sumlin was at least a solid enough coaching option for a program like Arizona to take a chance on him following the parting of former head coach Rich Rodriguez. There’s going to be two new head coaches with the two major programs in the state of Arizona now.

Sumlin is known as a player’s coach that can get very creative on the recruiting trail. It should be fun to see what he can do with the Wildcats this fall and if he makes much of a difference following the departure of “Rich-Rod”.
