Los Angeles Chargers: Uchenna Nwosu vs. Kyle Emanuel

Heading into the 2018 NFL season, many experts like the Los Angeles Chargers to be the best team in the AFC West division, and why not. The Chargers have a solid quarterback in Philip Rivers, some great edge rushers on defense, and they have the best collection of talent on both sides of the ball in the division.

During the 2018 NFL Draft, the Chargers spent their second round pick on Uchenna Nwosu, who could push Kyle Emanuel as a starter on the defense. This Chargers defense has some elite pass rushers already in Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram, but adding Nwosu to the starting unit would give them another guy who can flat out get to the quarterback.

Nwosu was a great find in the second round, as his skill set is perfect for Gus Bradley’s defense. Emanuel was a fifth round pick of the organization back in 2015, and he started 11 games for the team last season, picking up one interception and 1.5 sacks.

While Emanuel is best suited as a depth guy at linebacker, Nwosu is a player who could establish himself as a bonafide star at the next level. He has the kind of motor you look for in a young outside linebacker, and after playing at USC, he will likely have a big following even in year one.

This will be an interesting battle this summer, as the Chargers fully expect this to be a monster season for them in year two in La La Land. The window for Rivers is starting to close, and with them losing their star tight end Hunter Henry last week, they cannot afford to make any wrong decisions when it comes to who starts in Week 1.
