Washington Redskins: Derrius Guice vs. Rob Kelley

The Washington Redskins solidified their quarterback position this offseason, and they did not do it by locking up Kirk Cousins on a long-term deal. Instead, they traded Kendall Fuller for Alex Smith, bringing in the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback that has led his team to multiple AFC West titles the last few seasons.

During the 2018 NFL Draft, the Redskins drafted a player who can help make them so much better on the ground this season, selecting LSU running back Derrius Guice. Guice actually led the SEC in rushing as Leonard Fournette’s backup two years ago, and could have the same kind of success that Fournette had in year one this upcoming season.

Currently, the Redskins have a bit of a logjam at the running back position, including guys like Guice, Rob Kelley, and Samaje Perine. Kelley is penciled in as the starter right now,  but with a strong summer, Guice could be the guy lining up behind Smith when the Redskins kick off their 2018 season in September.

The Redskins actually won the NFC East a couple years ago, but the division has really leapfrogged them ever since. The defense has been atrocious, but they also added some talent on that side of the ball this offseason, so it will be interesting to see if they can take a step forward, especially with a winner like Smith under center.

Guice can do a little bit of everything, so he will be an incredible addition to this Redskins offense. Smith is going to lead this team to a bunch of wins in 2018, but do they have enough talent on both sides of the ball to compete in a very tough NFC East division.
