Buffalo Bills: Josh Allen vs. A.J. McCarron

The Buffalo Bills traded up a couple of times during the 2018 NFL Draft, turning a late round pick into the No. 7 overall pick in the first round. With that selection, the Bills drafted Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen, who is expected to be the team’s franchise quarterback for the next 15 years.

This organization has been waiting on their next Jim Kelly for some time now, and the franchise finally made it back to the playoffs for the first time since 1999 last season. They accomplished that with Tyrod Taylor at quarterback, but Taylor is gone, leaving both Allen and A.J. McCarron remaining to fight for the starting spot in 2018.

Nathan Peterman is also in the mix, but this is really a two-man race at this point. Of course, the Bills Mafia would love to see Allen start from Day One, but is that really good for the development for a player who could lead this team back to being a formidable force in the AFC for the first time since the 1990s.

Allen certainly has all the tools to be a starter in the league, and is a guy with a tremendous ceiling when it comes to the kind of production he could bring to the table down the road. The issue is, he had no talent around him at Wyoming, so he has never really had the players around him to help him reach his potential.

McCarron spent all of his NFL career backing up Andy Dalton in Cincinnati, so this is a great opportunity for him as well. He is going to have to stave off the rookie this summer, making this one of the better quarterback battles to keep an eye on heading into the 2018 season.
