Marlins at Padres

Marlins Probable Starter – Wei-Yen Chen, LHP

5.22 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 15.6 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .241 average, .319 wOBA, 42.1 fly all rate and 31.6 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .238 average, .372 wOBA, 55.7 fly ball rate and 28.4 hard contact rate

A lefty pitcher who isn’t striking anyone out and is giving up gobs of fly balls means two things for the Padres hitters – I’m basically locking in Christian Villanueva and Hunter Renfroe. The former has a .550 wOBA against lefties so far this year and the latter is fresh off the disabled list earlier this week. Since Renfroe doesn’t have a lot of games recently under his belt, he’s just $2,300 on FanDuel. The great part of this matchup is those two hitters strikeout a ton but Chen is carrying a very low strikeout rate as of now. The Padres are a solid under the radar stacking option for the night.

Padres Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Christian Villanueva, Hunter Renfroe

Secondary Options – Jose Pirela, Franmil Reyes

Padres Probable Starter – Jordan Lyles, RHP

3.83 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 23.0 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .174 average, .266 wOBA, 50.9 fly ball rate and 32.1 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .247 average, .316 wOBA, 39.1 fly ball rate and 32.3 hard contact rate

I don’t want to trust Jordan Lyles but there’s always interest in a pitcher against the Marlins offense. The Miami offense carries a top 10 strikeout rate against righties which does work in the favor of Lyles. The problem with trying to talk yourself into Lyles is he’s had two good starts and he’s gotten tagged in his other two. Even against Miami, he’s been too much of a mixed bag to fully trust. Petco isn’t a good hitter’s park but you’d want to target the righty hitters for Miami. J.T. Realmuto is the go-to guy in this spot as he has the power to leave the yard regardless of where it’s at.
