Indianapolis Colts — Ziggy Ansah

Although the Lions slapped the franchise tag on Ansah, the 30-year-old pass rusher has never proven he can stay healthy or be consistent. After another year of what will assuredly be up-and-down play, Detroit may be willing to simply let him walk.

The Colts desperately need edge pressure in a division with Marcus Mariota and Deshaun Watson and will have plenty of money to spend. Ansah likely won’t command a blockbuster deal given the aforementioned red flags with injuries and inconsistencies but is the kind of high-upside gamble a team with money can afford to take.

Indy did pour some draft resources into pass rush in the spring, but there’s no guarantees Tyquan Lewis and Kemoko Turay can be impact players now or in the future. We know when Ansah is healthy and engaged, he can dominate games even if it’s just a few times a year.

With the Colts projected to have nearly $50 million in cap space next offseason, rolling the dice on a pedigree pass rusher is exactly the type of risk a team with Andrew Luck should be making. They can win any game they play so long as Luck is healthy, so why not try to bring in a player who can give your team playmaking on the other side of the ball?
