Atlanta Falcons —  Tyler Eifert

If Eifert hits the market in 2019, it’ll be because injuries once again derailed an ultra-talented player. For a cash strapped team like the Falcons, Eifert represents precisely the kind of gamble an NFC Contender ought to take.

After paying Jake Matthews, Atlanta won’t be able to offer much, but if Eifert once again disappoints—again, that would be the only reason the Bengals wouldn’t extend him other than sheer incompetence—he shouldn’t cost the Falcons very much.

Clearly this team believes in the defensive growth potential on this roster, as evidenced by their first-round selection of Calvin Ridley over potential defensive playmakers. Tight end has been a hole on the roster since Tony Gonzalez retired and although Austin Hooper has done some nice things, he’s not the talent Eifert can be. Without the money to go after some of the top-level defensive line talent, the Falcons will have to settle for improving on the margins. A low-cost, high-upside play should be a good consolation prize.
