San Francisco 49ers — Jay Ajayi

Coming off the Jimmy Garoppolo mega-deal, the 49ers cap space quickly disappeared, but that won’t stop John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan from pushing this 49ers revamp forward.

Ajayi may never be anything more than a lead back in a RBBC backfield, but that’s just fine with Shanahan who finds ways to maximize the individual talents of his backs with packages and schematic tailoring.

San Francisco signed Jerrick McKinnon to a sizable contract in the spring, and Matt Breida showed some flashes last season, but Ajayi provides more size and between-the-tackles capability to go along with big play potential. He’s the ideal complimentary piece to McKinnon who could break out as a dynamic pass-catching weapon for the 49ers.

Getting a bigger back while not compromising on home run ability would be its own home run for the 49ers, especially on a 24-year-old running back who likely won’t cost much in what could be a depressed market in free agency.
