One free agent each NFL team should sign in 2019
Cleveland Browns — Donte Moncrief
For a team that has only won one more game than you or I have the last few years, it was surprisingly difficult to find a free agent match for them next offseason. Young players with talent and upside could blossom or could fall on their faces, but so much of this roster remains a massive unknown.
We’ll learn a great deal about the Browns in 2018, but one thing I think we can say reliably is neither Corey Coleman nor Josh Gordon can’t be relied upon to stay on the field. Of course, the reasons in each case or very different, but precarious either way.
Bringing in Jarvis Landry fills a void in the slot, but Moncrief would offer speed and playmaking on the boundary. He signed a one-year deal with the Jaguars who likely can’t afford to keep him beyond the 2018 season. The Browns, with $19.1 million in space, make sense as a landing spot, especially if Coleman suffers through injuries again in 2018 or Josh Gordon … well, you know.
This wouldn’t change the world for the Browns, but Cleveland’s roster needs the players it already has to step up in order to push this team forward. Moncrief would be a salve on a wound, not a blockbuster acquisition.
