Dallas Stars: Tony Romo

The Dallas Stars aren’t considered America’s Team, but one of their celebrity fans used to play for America’s Team.

Tony Romo, who spent years being scrutinized as the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, who were never anything but mediocre during Romo’s tenure, has also associated himself with the nearby hockey team, the Dallas Stars.

But back when Romo was still in his playing days, long before he became comfortable as an NFL broadcaster, he was the subject of some social media jawing on Twitter between the Cowboys and the Stars.

Back in January 2013, when the NHL was beginning play after its infamous lockout, the Cowboys took to Twitter with a rather harsh tweet, saying “Similarly in the category of nobody-cares…the NHL is back!” The Stars responded by saying “At least our #9 got the job done” and shared a photo of former No. 9 Mike Modano hoisting the Stanley Cup high above his head just after the Stars won the championship in 1999.

Taking digs at the Cowboys’ No. 9, Romo, was always a popular activity for football fans throughout the course of his playing career with the Cowboys, seeing as how he almost always had a tendency to come up short.

But nevertheless, after spending 14 seasons with the Cowboys, Romo developed a sports bond with the city of Dallas, and couldn’t help but show support for the Stars. He has been seen a time or two at the American Airlines Center, cheering on the home team and showing off a green Stars sweater.
