Los Angeles Kings: Will Ferrell
On June 5, 1967, the Los Angeles Kings were founded as part of the 1967 NHL expansion. A little more than a month later, on July 15, Will Ferrell was born in nearby Irvine, California. The two are basically the exact same age.
It makes sense that Ferrell, having grown up in Irvine, would latch on to the brand-new Kings, one of the franchises that jumpstarted true expansion of the NHL deeper into the United States. When Ferrell was just eight years old, the Kings made the move to acquire Marcel Dionne from the Detroit Red Wings and paired him with Dave Taylor and Charlie Simmer. The trio went on to become the famous “Triple Crown Line,” one of the most prolific, high-scoring groups in the history of the NHL.
Getting to experience the Triple Crown Line at such a young age probably made it pretty easy for Ferrell to become hooked on the Kings. Of course, Ferrell eventually grew up to become one of the most well-known actors and comedians in the world. You’ve probably seen him in movies such as Elf, Anchorman, Blades of Glory, Talladega Knights, Step Brothers, Daddy’s Home and many more over the years.
But in the meantime, Ferrell always makes time to root for the Kings. He even attended a few playoff games when the team made its run to its first Stanley Cup in franchise history in 2012. Two years later, Ferrell and Kings fans got to relive the experience again when they brought home the Cup in 2014 as well.
