Now wouldn’t this be a great story? The guy who came out of nowhere to lead Villanova to his second championship, taken in the last draft Philadelphia has to build out its roster with young players, at a position of need for the team.

DiVincenzo seems positive he will end up in the first round after announcing at the last minute to remain in the draft, so perhaps he has gotten interest from teams much higher than this. Certainly, the potential to go back to school and become a lottery pick after next season was enticing. If DiVincenzo decided to stay in the draft, he had to be optimistic about ending up in a good situation.

There might not be one better over the next several years than Philadelphia. The junior could come in and replace some of what Marco Belinelli gave them in the playoffs at the very least — a gunner and a big body that makes things easier on defense. He shot 40 percent from deep, made more than two assists for every turnover, and measured out of the park as an athlete at the draft combine.

The Sixers need to be financially conscious going forward, with this summer being one of their last opportunities to add talent before the team gets too expensive. There are reinforcements overseas and room for development from the youngsters currently on the roster, but the team needs to add even more young talent to feel good going forward and create a deeper trove of assets from which to draw in trades.

DiVincenzo would be a fantastic option.
