2. Javier Molina vs. Jessie Roman (junior welterweights)

Javier Molina (17-2, 8 KOs) and Jessie Roman (22-3,11  KOs) headline the boxing card on Friday, June 1 on Estrella TV. Molina is arguably the highest-profile boxer fighting on the opening weekend of June. He had high accolades as an amateur and has a nice record as a professional, but he has two losses on his record.

Before turning pro at 19 years old, Molina won the amateur U.S. National Championships in 2007 as a junior welterweight. He won several other prestigious amateur titles and made the U.S. Olympic team in 2008.

Molina had amateur success and comes from a family of boxers. He looked poised to take the professional boxing world by storm, but he has stalled out as of late.

He lost his last bout to Jamal James in 2016. James is a talented boxer, but Molina lacks wins against challenging opponents. He has never beaten a notable opponent. His best win came against Joseph Elegele (16-2, 11 KOs) in 2013.

Molina’s inactivity over the last few years is troubling going into his bout with Roman. He’s only fought twice since 2015. Roman, on the other hand, fought twice in 2017. Molina has fought top-level boxers, but his competition has been on par with Molina’s.

Molina lacks power. He has a 42 percent KO rating, but he lacks experience as a junior welterweight. Most of his fights have taken place in a higher division. Dropping down in weight might add to the effectiveness of his punches.

Will Molina’s inactivity cost him against the experienced Roman? We will find out soon.
