DraftKings Early MLB Picks June 2: Can Bauer slow down the Twins?

Our Saturday is split very evenly this week with seven early and eight late games. We will concentrate on the seven early games here. The middle tier is lacking, so the best pitcher options seem to be stud and scrub. We will still take a look at a couple of mid tier guys for you brave souls. Let’s see what we have!

More from DFS

They are going to have a tough time getting the game in in Baltimore again. Rain is expected all afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible in St Louis, KC, and Minneapolis, but none look like they will cause a postponement. At least the wind is mild this afternoon!

We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!

These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. Stacking against a bad pitcher is always a good idea!

OAKLAND, CA – MAY 22: Trevor Cahill #53 of the Oakland Athletics pitches against the Seattle Mariners during the first inning at the Oakland Coliseum on May 22, 2018 in Oakland, California. (Photo by Jason O. Watson/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Trevor Bauer ($12,000): Bauer’s career numbers against the Twins aren’t great, but he has racked up 94 DraftKings points in his last three starts. Bauer also has a stellar 1.97 ERA in five road starts. This has been a breakout season for Bauer, so I don’t know how much stock we can put into past numbers. However, the caveat here is that the Twins sent Carrasco to an early shower last night. This offense is dangerous at times, but they aren’t very consistent.

J.A. Happ ($11,100): To me, Happ’s price looks too inflated. With Miggy back (and the rally goose) the Tigers offense is back on track. They also have seven runs in only 54 at bats against Happ. The strikeout potential on Happ is the reason for the inflation, but I think that he may give up enough runs to drag his points total down. i would much rather roll Cahill out there against a Royals team that couldn’t hit off the Stormchasers right now.

Middle Tier:

Trevor Cahill ($10,200): The Royals were dominated my Montes last night. Now they get a guy who has held them to a .154 average and just one run compared to nine strikeouts over 34 at bats. This is going to be another long day for the boys in Royal Blue. Kauffman Stadium has been a house of horrors for the Royals this season. They are just 9-20 at home so far! Dare I say 9-21?

Bargain Pitchers:

Matt Boyd ($6,600): You have to be a bit Brave here, but hear me out. Boyd has a stellar 1.84 ERA in five home starts this year. With Donaldson back on the shelf, that takes a huge power bat from teh righto side out of the lineup. Boyd really hasn’t had a bad start since May 6th. There is solid potential for the price here.

Chad Kuhl ($6,200): Taillon shut down the Cards last night. There is reason to believe Kuhl can have some success today as well. The Cardinals are only hitting .220 against Kuhl in 50 at bats with only four runs and 14 strikeouts. Kuhl has four quality starts in his last five outings. He doesn’t rack up a ton of strikeouts, but Kuhl’s price reflects that. There is good value here for the price.

CHICAGO, IL – JUNE 01: Tim Anderson #7 of the Chicago White Sox hits a triple in the sixth inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at Guaranteed Rate Field on June 1, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois. (Photo by Dylan Buell/Getty Images) /

Chicago White Sox vs. Jhoulys Chacin:

This is going to be a high scoring game again. I wont say this is as good of a matchup for the Sox as last night, but Chacin has struggled away from Miller Park this year. Chacin has a 4.46 ERA in seven road starts. Once again, Abreu, Moncada, Tim Anderson, Palka, and Yolmer (don’t call me Carlos) Sanchez are all worth a look.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. James Shields:

Truth be told, I actually like the Brewers side better. I know that many hate having their lineup done early and then have to watch as others pass them by, but this is the day that stacking the early game should keep you in the money. Travis Shaw, Yelich, Braun, Lorenzo Cain, Villar, and Domingo Santana if he starts are all worth a look. You can stack Brewers to fit your budget. Anyone in that lineup is a good play today.

Oakland Athletics vs. Jason Hammel:

How much do the A’s have left after piling on 16 runs last night? Maybe plenty. They have five homers in 94 at bats against Hammel. Khris Davis is 7-23(.304) with two of those and five RBI. Matt Olson, Matt Joyce, and Piscotty have the other three. I also like Dustin Fowler, who slugged two homers yesterday as well.

Cleveland Indians vs. Lance Lynn:

Oh, so the Indians are only hitting .216 off Lynn? I don’t care. They only have three runs in 43 at bats? Still don’t care. Lynn’s move to the American League has been a disaster. Though Lynn has pitched better in his last two outings, it was against the Royals and Tigers, both of whom have dead offenses or did at the time. What Lynn does against a real team isn’t going to be pretty. Tops on my list are Lindor, Brantley, and Edwin. Kipnis, Jose Ramirez, and Greg Allen are tempting as well. Hell, even Melky is tempting against Lynn today.

Washington Nationals vs. Brandon McCarthy:

The Nats are hitting .298 against McCarthy so far, but have not homered off of him. That should chance here. I like Harper and Matt Adams here. Trea Turner and Rendon are worth a look as well. However, I prefer more lefty exposure with Juan Soto here.

NEW YORK, NY – APRIL 25: Aaron Judge #99 of the New York Yankees hits a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and Gleyber Torres of the New York Yankees scores against the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium on April 25, 2018 in the Bronx borough of New York City. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Kevin Gausman‘s numbers against the Yankees aren’t bad enough to warrant a stack, but there are some good components here. Of course Oriole Killer Aaron Judge is on here. Judge is 7-14 with three homers and six RBI. Judge has 13 homers and 29 RBI in 28 career starts against the Orioles. Gary Sanchez will be well rested, and has homered off of Gausman. Brett Gardner has too.

More from FanSided

Middle Tier:

Luke Weaver has struggled lately , so I’m more inclined to get some fair priced Pirates exposure than to use Weaver himself. I like Dickerson and Austin Meadows here.

Look out for Eddie Rosario. Rosario is 11-29(.379) with a homer and seven RBI against Trevor Bauer already. He and Max Kepler are the only Twins I would consider this afternoon though.

Matt Boyd has been stellar at home, but  the Blue Jays have clobbered him. So I will go the happy medium of staying off of Boyd and only using one or two Jays. Kendrys Morales is 9-12 with a homer and seven RBI in his career against Boyd. Granderson and Kevin Pillar have also homered off of Boyd in the past.

Bargain Shoppers:

I don’t trust the Orioles offense enough to stack against Tanaka, but they do have 22 RBI off of him in just 134 at bats. I’m expecting offense to take this game over. Jonathan Schoop in all his $3,300 glory has three homers and six RBI off of Tanaka already. Adam Jones has two homers and six RBI. Machado and Chris Davis have the other homers, but they have struggled against Tanaka overall.

Gio Gonzalez has been really good this year, but his 4.24 ERA at SunTrust Park in two starts is pedestrian at best. The Braves did pretty well against Strasburg last night. I could see them doing the same to Gonzalez. Both Kurt Suzuki and Dansby Swanson has homered twice off of Gio. Swanson was the one that dealt the big blow to Strasburg last night. Will lightning strike twice?

If James McCann is in there, he has a homer and five of the seven RBI against J.A. Happ. If McCann is out, that does increase Happ’s stock a little. I also like Castellanos and Miggy here, but am in no hurry to stack against Happ.
