IndyCar’s 2018 Dual in Detroit finished Sunday with Ryan Hunter-Reay capturing the second race. Here are the complete Dual in Detroit Race 2 results.

The Verizon IndyCar Series finished its Detroit doubleheader on Sunday, with the second half of the 2018 Dual in Detroit involving more of the same bizarre action before Ryan Hunter-Reay got his first victory of the year.

After Scott Dixon won the first race on Saturday, IndyCar teams had to come back and do it all again the next day. The race got off to an awkward start when the pace car (driven by a General Motors executive and not regular pilot Oriol Servia) crashed on the first parade lap — everyone was fine, but it held up the green flag for more than 30 minutes.

Then rookie Santino Ferrucci hit Spencer Pigot, causing Pigot to stall and bring out a yellow flag on the first race lap, slowing the field down again. But when Dual in Detroit Race 2 did get underway, it was a scramble to get going and get ahead.

Alexander Rossi captured a second consecutive IndyCar pole position for Andretti Autosport, and held it for 23 of 70 laps before the first cycle of pit stops. No sooner had Rossi reclaimed the lead than fifth-place Sebastien Bourdais went spinning on Lap 38, miraculously not hitting anyone in the process. He suffered a bent tow link and fell to 21st.

Rossi and teammate Ryan Hunter-Reay exchanged the lead for most of the day, with Indy 500 winner Will Power lurking in third with a much-improved drive after his difficult run in the Dual in Detroit’s first half. But with just seven laps to go, Rossi locked up his brakes for the second time and ran off course, ruining an otherwise dominant day with a flat tire:

The victory was Ryan Hunter-Reay’s first of the 2018 IndyCar season and his first since 2015. It capped an impressive weekend for him, as he finished second in Saturday’s race. It also enabled Honda to sweep this Verizon IndyCar Series doubleheader, right in the backyard of Chevrolet.

“I just put my head down and the thing was flying,” Hunter-Reay said in Victory Lane. “That was a heck of a car, heck of a strategy, great in the pit lane and I drove my rear end off.”
