The Marlins may not be winning many games this season. Though, their starting pitchers have great fantasy baseball matchups this week and are worth streaming.

The Miami Marlins had a fire sale in the offseason, trading away all of their star players. While the team still has some offensive stars, they aren’t winning many games. Though, that may change entering this week. The Marlins have some favorable  Fantasy Baseball matchups that make the starting pitchers worth streaming.

The Marlins starting pitching staff consists of Jose Urena (5.4 percent ownership in ESPN leagues), Caleb Smith (38.6 percent), Dan Straily (9.8 percent), Wei-Yin Chen (1.2 percent) and Elieser Hernandez (1.0 percent). Yeah, not a list of who’s who among pitchers. Straily has the best ERA with a 3.69 and Smith leads the team with just four wins.

It doesn’t help that they’ve had to face the Washington Nationals and the surprising Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies early in the season. But, the teams they face will provide an easier challenge based on the lack of offense their opponents have.

The Marlins have two three-game series this upcoming week, starting on June 5 against the St. Louis Cardinals on the road and then the San Diego Padres at home.

The Cardinals are hitting .240 and the Padres are hitting .231 this season. The month of May wasn’t much better as they hit .249 and .227, respectively.

ESPN senior writer Tristan H. Cockcroft listed the probable pitchers for the upcoming weeks, giving them a game score based on the matchup, with 50 being average. Urena scored a 50 in the first matchup, but it moves up to 53 against the Padres.

Chen scored a 49. He has a 4.6 BB/9, 2.3 HR/9 and 1.516 WHIP this season, which is why the score is a little low. Hernandez comes back with a 52 in the final game of the series. He doesn’t strike out a lot of batters but he doesn’t give up many walks with a 4.3 K/9 and 1.3 BB/9.

Smith, Straily and Urena are expected to take the mound over the weekend. They scored a 59, 54 and 53 respectively. Smith has an 11.0 K/9 and 4.03 ERA in 11 starts. Straily limits the damage against him, based on his 1.358 WHIP.

Based on their season-long numbers, these aren’t pitchers I want to own for the rest of the season, with Smith being the exception to the rule. The Marlins starters have the seventh-most home runs and allowed with 49 and 123.

Next: Clayton Kershaw back on the DL

With the number of pitchers on the DL, you likely have a spot or two open on your roster. If you need help in wins or ratio stats, then make the Marlins pitchers a speculative add this week and drop them afterwards.
