The 2018 IndyCar season has the same Top 10 in a new order after Detroit. Here are the updated Verizon IndyCar Series standings after the Dual in Detroit.

Two races in Detroit haven’t changed the top of the Verizon IndyCar Series standings, but things are heating up in the 2018 IndyCar season after eight of 17 races.

Will Power remains the man to beat in the 2018 IndyCar standings, thanks to being the highest finishing Chevrolet driver in both Dual in Detroit races, including a podium finish on Sunday.

Scott Dixon’s victory on Saturday and Ryan Hunter-Reay’s win on Sunday moved them up to second place from fourth, and fourth place from fifth, respectively. That means four of the top five spots are occupied by former champions.

The fifth person on the list, Alexander Rossi, was poised to reclaim the championship lead with a race victory on Sunday. However, Rossi lost a tire while in the lead and dropped from first to 12th place, which cost him one spot in the IndyCar standings as well.

There are only 11 points separating the Top 3 Verizon IndyCar Series drivers, but there is a sizable gap developing even within the Top 10. Marco Andretti may be in eighth place, but he’s more than 100 points behind Will Power. With 50 points on the line for each race victory, Andretti would have to win two races just to catch up to Power, assuming that Power doesn’t gain any points at all.

However, Andretti did push past James Hinchcliffe to enter the top portion of the standings, as he went from 11th to eighth and Hinchcliffe fell to 11th. That was the only shift amongst the Top 10 contenders this week.
