With the Nationals off on Monday, it was a good day for some of the players to head over to Capital One Arena for Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final.

One of the coolest things about cities that field multiple professional sports teams is the camaraderie and support that those teams and their players show for each other. Frequently, you’ll see stars from the city’s baseball team showing up to support the city’s hockey team, or vice versa, or players from other sports as well.

It’s no different in Washington, D.C., right now as the Washington Capitals are in the middle of a heated battle for the Stanley Cup. And since the Washington Nationals had the day off on Monday, it was a perfect opportunity for a couple of their stars to show up at Capital One Arena for Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Capitals and the Vegas Golden Knights.

On this special occasion, the Capitals welcomed Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer and first baseman Ryan Zimmerman to the game as the “Fans of the Game.”

The pair of Nationals certainly did their part as “fans,” too. They didn’t just show up to the game wearing casual street clothes, sitting calmly and quietly in their seats, just simply enjoying a hockey game and not wanting to be bothered.

As the Capitals announced Scherzer and Zimmerman as the Fans of the Game, they both donned Capitals jerseys with hockey helmets, sticks and gloves to go along with it. When their names were announced, they joined in with their fellow fans in a very loud “LET’S GO CAPS” chant.

When the game is over, Scherzer and Zimmerman will go back to work nearby — the Nationals will welcome the Tampa Bay Rays to town for a two-game series, followed by the San Francisco Giants for a three-game series — as they continue chasing down the Atlanta Braves for first place in the National League East.

But on Monday night, everybody in Washington, D.C., including the fellow athletes, only have one goal in mind, and that is to cheer the Capitals on to victory.
