One prospect each MLB team should call up right now
Minnesota Twins: Nick Gordon
After a surprise run to the postseason last year, the Minnesota Twins have been one of the most disappointing teams in the league this year. Playing in the weak AL Central might not even be enough to save them at this point with the AL West contenders playing well. There isn’t one player in particular pulling the Twins down. It has been a collective group effort of mediocrity.
Byron Buxton, an under-the-radar pick for MVP at the start of the year, has been one of the worst everyday players in the league. Buxton looked like he had it all figured out in the second half last year, but is lost again. But for that stretch in August and September last year, Buxton is barely a .200 hitter in the big leagues.
Buxton has been terrible, but the Twins are also missing their projected starting shortstop, Jorge Polanco, who was popped for PEDs and will not return until July. Ehire Adrianza has been his replacement, but has an unsightly .214/.278/.286 line. Polanco will be back, but the Twins need a better option at shortstop until he is in the clear.
Twenty-two-year-old Nick Gordon is the number-four prospect in the Minnesota system and can play shortstop and second base. He comes from MLB stock, the son of closer Tom Gordon and brother of Seattle Mariners All-Star Dee Gordon. The younger Gordon is a .323 hitter at Double-A and Triple-A this year and has good speed. He is rangy in the infield and can occasionally drive the ball with more power than his brother.
