Philadelphia Phillies: Enyel De Los Santos

With so many of the prospects acquired during the first phase of their rebuild up in the big leagues and leading a contender, the Philadelphia Phillies farm system is catching its breath and getting the next wave ready to contribute. The Phillies have three top-100 prospects playing at High-A this year as well as former number-one overall pick Mickey Moniak. To find a prospect ready to compete right away at the MLB level, you have to look a little further down the ranks of the system.

Right-hander Enyel De Los Santos is the furthest along of the Phillies pitching prospects and has a 1.40 ERA in nine starts at Triple-A this year. The 22-year-old can bump his fastball as high as 98 mph and has 56 strikeouts in 51.1 innings with only 20 walks and two home runs allowed. The Phillies system is so good that a 22-year-old already in Triple-A who can throw 98 with good command, has a plus changeup and rarely gives up the longball is only rated 12th.

The Phillies addressed their most most recent hole by calling up Dylan Cozens to replace Rhys Hoskins while he recovers from a broken jaw. Roman Quinn would have been another solid option, but he is currently on the DL. Really, there’s just an embarrassment of riches in the Phillies farm system.

De Los Santos has been left as a starting pitcher for now, but the Phillies should consider bringing him up later this season as another power arm out of the bullpen. He is still working through developing his breaking pitches, but already has two strong offerings in his fastball and changeup, and those weapons can be put to work immediately.
