Toronto Blue Jays: Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

With Ronald Acuna of the Atlanta Braves graduated to the big leagues, Toronto Blue Jays prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. takes the crown of top prospect left in the minor leagues. This son of a Hall of Famer has been generating immense hype since he was a teenager (for the record, he’s still a teenager) putting on epic power displays in the Dominican Republic.

What Guerrero has done in his two-plus years as a professional is just silly. Since signing with the Jays and debuting as a 17-year-old, he has hit .329/.416/.520. The young third baseman has none of his father’s swing-at-everything approach, but has all of the power. In 49 games at Double-A this year, he is hitting .414/.464/.691 with 18 doubles and 11 home runs.

Excuse me?

Vlad Guerrero Jr. is a once-in-a-lifetime type of prospect, and he is already ready for the big leagues at the age of 19. The only thing that could prevent him from being called up this year is a steeper downturn by the Blue Jays. There’s no need to start his service time on a team far out of the playoff race. Either way, the replacement for Josh Donaldson will be here soon.
