NBA Draft 2018: 5 targets for the Los Angeles Lakers
4. Shake Milton (MSU)
Only the Phoenix Suns shot worse from deep than the Lakers did this past season, and if bolstering their defense for next season is priority 1A, than shooting is 1B.
Enter Shake Milton, a tweener combo guard who can absolutely shoot it from deep. All three years at SMU, Milton averaged at least 42 percent from three, 43.4 percent during his junior campaign on nearly six attempts.
He’ll have to improve nearly everywhere else, though. He has the size and athleticism to become a disruptive defender at 6-foot-5 with a wingspan just under 7-feet, but he is prone to reaching and getting lost on assignments off the ball, both correctable with the right coaching staff and scheme.
Lakers head coach Luke Walton loves to have multiple ball handlers and playmakers on the floor a la Golden State, where he was before heading south to Los Angeles, and Milton is going to have to improve in those areas, too.
However, at No. 25, finding a guy who can stroke it with the potential to grow pretty much everywhere else, Milton could be a steal for these Lakers, especially if Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, one of three Lakers shooting better from 37.5 from deep, leaves in free agency.
