NHL mock draft: How all-time greats fit 2018 needs
The Anaheim Ducks need guys who can score. They have one of the best goaltenders in the NHL in John Gibson. Their defense, despite losing Shea Theodore to the Vegas Golden Knights, is still pretty darn good. However, their right wings aren’t that good. Corey Perry led all their right wings with 17 goals and 49 points. Jakub Silfverberg had 40 points and Ondrej Kase had 38 points.
Let’s give the Ducks one of the best right wings of all-time in Mike Bossy. Bossy was a critical part of the New York Islanders dynasty in the 1980s. During his career, he won a Calder Trophy, a Conn Smythe Trophy, and three Lady Byngs. Bossy is one of the few players in NHL history who has accomplished the “50 goals in 50 games” feat. He led the league in goals twice (1978-79, 1980-81).
Bossy scored at least 60 goals five times in his career. In each season but his last one (during which he scored 38 goals), he put up at least 50 goals. Bossy’s career sadly ended prematurely. He could have challenged Gretzky’s all-time goal record if he stayed healthy. However, knee problems forced Bossy into retirement when he was just 30 years old.
The Ducks are in “win now” mode, so they can afford to take him even knowing about his injury problems.
