NHL mock draft: How all-time greats fit 2018 needs
The Minnesota Wild’s need is a fairly obvious one — goal scoring. Eric Staal and Jason Zucker combined for 75 goals. The rest of the team only managed 178 goals. With Zucker potentially being a cap casualty and Zach Parise, the Wild need help at left wing. Luc Robitaille is one of the most prolific forwards of all-time.
His 668 goals are the most of any left wing in NHL history. Robitaille is also the leader in points among left wings with 1,394. He’s one of the most natural goal scorers of all-time. Robitaille would give the Wild a dynamic wing, something they desperately need.
He reached the 100 point plateau in four seasons. Robitaille was named eight All-Star teams and finished in the top 10 in goals nine times. He won the 1986-87 Calder Trophy after scoring 45 goals and putting up 84 points in 79 games. Robitaille was an impressive shooter, finishing his career with a 16.9 percent shooting percentage.
With nine points in 24 games, he helped the Detroit Red Wings win the 2001-02 Stanley Cup. That was the lone championship of his career. Robitaille helped the Los Angeles Kings be a consistent contender, along with Gretzky. He would give the Wild a consistent goal scorer, which is something they’ve lacked in recent years other than Eric Staal.
