DraftKings Early MLB Picks June 7: Berrios looks like an ace today
We have a pretty busy Thursday with ten games on tap. They are evenly split between the early and main slates. Pitching is better in the afternoon, but it does make for an intriguing all day slate! What am I targeting for the early games? There are some interesting options out there, but you will have to choose between pitching and stacking the Rockies/Reds in Cincinnati.

There is no rain, and not even any major wind in the forecast this afternoon. The biggest is a 9 mph breeze blowing in at Wrigley.
We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!
These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. Stacking against a bad pitcher is always a good idea!

Next: DraftKings Pitcher Plays
Top Tier:
Miles Mikolas ($10,900): I don’t know that I would pay more than Berrios for Mikolas, but this is a good matchup for him. Mikolas sports a stellar 1.53 ERA in five home starts this year, and the Marlins are near the bottom of the league in most offensive categories. I like the strikeout potential more for Berrios, but it’s possible that Mikolas goes deeper into the game and still outscores Berrios. You really can’t go wrong with either of them today.
Jose Berrios ($10,600): The White Sox are hitting a measly .161 against Berrios in 93 at bats with only two homers and seven runs to go with a whopping 37 strikeouts. Once again, these are dominant numbers. Berrios has racked up 48 DraftKings points in two starts against the White Sox already this year. Look for another strong performance here.
Middle Tier:
Tyler Anderson ($6,900): If you are looking to save on pitching, there isn’t much down here. Anderson was not terrible against the Reds in Denver ten days ago, which is better than his total month of May. He had a 1.88 ERA in April before the wheels fell off. I don’t really trust Anderson, but he has held the Reds to a .212 average in 33 at bats with two homers, three runs, and seven strikeouts. Those numbers are solid enough, especially since most of them were at Coors.
Tyler Chatwood ($6,400): The numbers are there for Chatwood. The Phillies are only hitting .206 against Chatwood in 34 at bats with 11 strikeouts, which is well above what he usually turns in. The Phillies have had some problems scoring runs with Hoskins out. We saw Quintana put up a good start last night against a lineup full of righties. Chatwood should come up with a quality outing here.
Bargain Pitchers:
James Shields ($5,600): The Twins are an all or nothing offense, and Shields actually posted a 3.44 ERA in May. He is pitching better lately. There is also the fact that he put up a pretty strong 16.6 DraftKings points on the Twins earlier this year. I can see Shields putting together a quality start here, which would make him worth this price easily.
Dennis Santana ($4,900): Santana had a rough major league debut in long relief at Coors Field, but that can be expected. He has much better circumstances for his first major league start. PNC Park is one of the more pitcher friendly venues in the senior circuit, and the team in it has only scored more than four runs twice in the last dozen games. Santana makes for a decent dart throw today.
Colorado Rockies vs. Tyler Mahle:
Mahle didn’t get lit up in Colorado as bad as I thought he would, but it wasn’t a good outing for him either. The Rockies’ bats are actually a little cheaper on the road. Charlie Blackmon did the bulk of the damage on Mahle, so I definitely want him in there. Parra and CarGo are worth a look as well. Ryan McMahon is worth a look if he starts, and you can never go wrong with Arenado. However, this stack wont leave you with much left for pitching. You will have to take their pitcher to complete your stack whether you want to or not.
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Trevor Richards:
At least we think it’s going to be Richards that takes the mound. The Marlins have already said that Elieser Hernandez will move out of the rotation, so it seems that Richards is the next logical choice. He posted a 4.94 ERA with the Marlins earlier this season, so don’t expect much here. Do expect much from guys like Tommy Pham and Matt Carpenter. Yairo Munoz and Yadier Molina aren’t bad picks either. No matter who the Marlins throw out there, a Cardinals stack is in order.
Next: Other notes for 6-6
Top Tier:
The Reds’ bats are priced up with Colorado in town, and this has been a high scoring series. It likely will be in the finale as well. Both Gennett and Suarez have homers against Tyler Anderson. Adam Duvall is a temping cheap pick because of the power potential and the platoon advantage.
I don’t trust Nick Pivetta against the Cubs. His numbers against them aren’t all that great. Even Nola didn’t fare well at Wrigley last night. I definitely want a piece of Rizzo today, especially considering Rizzo has two of the three Cubs RBI against Pivetta.

Middle Tier:
Brian Dozier is 12-38(.316) with seven walks, five doubles, four homers, a steal, and 10 RBI against James Shields. You need to have Dozier in there! Miguel Sano and Logan Morrison have also homered off of Shields in their careers.
Call me a skeptic, but I still don’t fully trust Jameson Taillon. His career numbers against the Dodgers aren’t good. I like Chris Taylor and Justin Turner here, along with the red-hot Matt Kemp. You can use Taillon if you want, but he gave up five runs in four innings in his only career start against them.
Jose Abreu and the Sanchez formerly known as Carlos have both homered off of Jose Berrios, but they are just 8-31 against him lifetime.
I do like Odubel Herrera against Tyler Chatwood tonight, but it’s hard to get excited about anyone else on this team right now. Cesar Hernandez is still a good pick though.
