DraftKings Main MLB Picks June 7: Gerrit Cole could dominate
We have a pretty busy Thursday with ten games on tap. They are evenly split between the early and main slates. Pitching is better in the afternoon, but it does make for an intriguing all day slate! There is only one ace caliber pitcher in the nightcap. Is he worth using? Which of the low priced options can come through for us? Let’s take a look!

There is no rain tonight, but we do have some wind to deal with. There is a stout 15 mph breeze blowing out to right in Fenway, so check out that right handed power! There is a 12 mph wind blowing in from right in Arlington, but the conditions are still good for hitters.
We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!
These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. Stacking against a bad pitcher is always a good idea!

Top Tier:
Gerrit Cole ($14,000): If you believe in BvP stats, lock in Cole now. He is the Rangers’ “daddy,” as Pedro Martinez would put it. The Rangers are a pathetic 4-42(.095) with three solo homers and 17 strikeouts. You can chase the homers if you want, but you probably have a better chance of betting on Cole to throw a shutout. The caveat here is that ownership on Cole will approach 80%, which is insane. There is so much value on this slate that everyone can afford him. However, I don’t know if we can afford to fade him. The potential here is extremely high.
Middle Tier:
Cole Hamels ($8,100): It ‘s tough to use Hamels in a situation like this, but the middle tier is about as inviting as Death Valley in July. It is a barren wasteland tonight. However, Hamels has made three of his six starts of 2018 against Houston. He has averaged 19.3 DraftKings points per game in those outings. That’s a pretty good total for Hamels. The Astros are only hitting .224 off of Hamels in 174 at bats wtih eight homers, 15 runs, and 41 strikeouts. If you take the Astros moniker off of that, those stats look like they are worth using, yes? There is risk involved, but Hamels has proven that he can hold his own against this offense. That makes him borderline elite on this slate.
Bargain Pitchers:
Jalen Beeks ($5,700): Beeks is actually in a pretty good spot for his major league debut. Beeks earned the call with a 2.56 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 56.1 innings at AAA Pawtucket this year. The kicker is that Beeks racked up 80 strikeouts! The Tigers strike out quite a bit, and this offense has only scored one run in the first two games of the series against Boston. There is a lot of potential here, but as with any rookie, there is also significant risk.
David Hess ($5,200): Hess has given up just one run and eight hits over 12.2 innings in his last two starts. He is pitching very well right now. The Blue Jays are not hitting very well. They scored just two runs in two games against the Yankees. There is pretty good upside for Hess here, but as with any rookie on the road, there is risk involved.
Austin Pruitt ($4,600): Pruitt has been solid in the middle innings coming in for the opener. This strategy by Kevin Cash has mixed results, and has pissed in the Cheerios of many a DFS player this season. This is the norm for the Rays though. We need to treat Pruitt as the starter. There is decent potential here, though Pruitt has struggled against lefties.
Boston Red Sox vs. Matt Boyd:
This could be a rough one for Boyd. His ERA is almost two runs higher on the road. He’s a lefty with the wind blowing out to right in Fenway. Stack away! Starting it off is J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts. Sam Travis is a nice cheap options as are Brock Holt and Eduardo Nunez. This may actually be one time I fade Benintendi, but he will likely get at least two at bats against the somewhat awful Detroit bullpen.
Baltimore Orioles vs. Jaime Garcia:
Baltimore has a ton of right handed bats, and Garcia has allowed five homers in 21 innings at Rogers Centre so far this year. This is a great place to stack, and you don’t even have to break the bank to do it. Manny Machado is expensive, but you can have the power potential of Trumbo, Mancini, and Adam Jones for $3,800 or less. Danny Valencia is worth a look as well.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Mike Leake:
Yes, it could be kind of difficult to find enough pieces of this offense worth stacking. The Rays are hitting .320 with four homers in only 75 at bats against Leake so far. Johnny Field and Carlos Gomez each have a homer, so that’s a good place to start. Wilson Ramos has two homers. Brad Miller is 4-9 against Leake, and has plenty of power potential. Add in Matt Duffy, C.J. Cron, or Daniel Robertson to complete an insanely cheap stack. If only we had something like this with the pitching from the early slate!
Oakland Athletics vs. Jason Hammel:
His former team is hitting .284 with five homers and 12 runs in 95 at bats against Hammel. This is also a fairly cheap stack. Matt Olson is the most expensive, but his solo homer is his only hit off of Hammel in five tries. Khris Davis has homered twice off of Hammel, and should be one of the better plays of the night. Stephen Piscotty is 5-16 with a solo homer against Hammel. Matt Chapman and Dustin Fowler are worth a look as well.
Next: Other notes for 6-7
Top Tier:
I’m not an advocate for a Detroit stack with this lineup, even against a rookie. However, I still like Miggy here. Jose Iglesias and JaCoby Jones are nice cheaper options if you think the Tigers can get to a rookie in his major league debut.
Geroge Springer is only 4-20 against Cole Hamels, but he has slugged three homers and walked six times. Evan Gattis also has three solo blasts off of Hamels. There is serious home run potential here. Jack Marisnick and Jose Altuve have also taken Hamels deep.

Middle Tier:
I will say that David Hess makes me nervous, so Justin Smoak and Teoscar Hernandez are still in play for me. I’m not all that crazy about the Toronto offense with Donaldson out though.
I’ve always been a Denard Span fan, especially when he was with the Twins. I’m returning to Span superfan tonight in a revenge game against the team that traded him a week ago. I also like Dee Gordon leading off against the Rays in yet another bullpen game.
There is decent potential for Mike Moustakas and Salvador Perez tonight since the A’s are putting Paul Blackburn out there instead of Montas. Blackburn will be on a pitch limit here in his 2018 debut, but the Royals should get at least two tries off of him.
Bargain Shoppers:
Joey Gallo gets a discounted price tonight, and he has two solo homers in six at bats against Gerrit Cole. For those of your curious, Robinson Chirinos has the other, but it is his only hit in five at bats.
