After his first Western Conference Finals, Chris Paul is now a free agent who is looking to silence the critics by adding an NBA championship to his resume.

Chris Paul has struggled with one criticism his entire career, that he couldn’t win a championship. Despite all of his accomplishments, critics hold that over him. Despite leading the NBA in assists 4 times, leading the league in steals six times, and being an eight time All-NBA player, he hasn’t truly gotten the credit he deserves. He was robbed of the MVP in 2007-08 and has career averages of 18.7 points per game and 9.8 assists. Yet the one thing everybody says is that he hasn’t won a championship.

This year looked to be his best chance. As a member of the 65-win Rockets, a team built to beat the Warriors, he was in position to do so. Then, the Rockets took a 3-2 lead on the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals and it looked even more possible. After that, Paul was ruled out for Game 6. It was okay because the Warriors weren’t going to be eliminated at home, but when he also missed Game 7, that was bad. The Rockets needed Paul in those games. They needed the Chris Paul that took over Game 5. So now, where will he go to pursue that elusive championship?
