41. . G/F. Tulane. Melvin Frazier. 28. player

The Warriors need more… wings? Though they pioneered the NBA’s current, switchable form of small ball, their own plan is staring their shallow bench in the place and cackling. Golden State’s offseason plans backfired, and their thinness was exposed against the Warriors, especially after Andre Iguodala hurt his leg. Without Omri Casspi or Nick Young doing enough to earn a spot on the team next season, the Warriors should try and replace them in the draft.

Frazier is not likely their first choice, though he has risen considerably even after failing to lead Tulane to the NCAA tournament. The junior has more athletic upside than a typical 3-and-D wing, but the translation of his jump shot is far from cemented. He attempted just 91 such shots all season (48 from NBA range, according to The Stepien) and was a poor free-throw shooter throughout his college career. Those indicators would typically mean a prospect is unlikely to be a great NBA shooter.

However, Frazier improved from all shooting levels as a junior and threw down some explosive finishes as he developed a better understanding of his own game. He also made a leap as a playmaker without increasing his turnovers much. The offense has shown signs of progress — surely enough to take the chance in favor of his defense.

Just 6-5, Frazier is similar to former Warriors’ second-round pick and 2018 free agent Pat McCaw in his projected ability to defend bigger players. Frazier has a 7-2 wingspan and the quickness to stay in front of taller, longer players. He could help the versatile Warriors stay themselves.
