Washington Capitals 2018 championship parade: Date, start time, route
The nation’s capital hasn’t had to plan a victory parade for one of its teams in 26 years. That ends now as the Washington Capitals celebrate their Stanley Cup win.
Well, it finally happened.
Washington D.C.’s 26-year championship drought finally ended on June 7, 2018, when the Washington Capitals defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in five games to win the franchise’s first Stanley Cup.
The game took place in Las Vegas, but Capitals fans in the D.C. area took the streets to celebrate their team’s win together en masse.
The last D.C. professional sports championship occurred in 1992, when the Washington football team beat the Buffalo Bills in the Super Bowl.
Since then, no D.C. sports team has even reached a conference championship. Well, until now.
The District has yet to confirm that there will be a victory parade, though the Capitals’ Twitter account sure seems to think there will be one and is planning accordingly:
When a parade does inevitably happen, expect the likes of Washington football team cornerback Josh Norman to attend.

Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper will probably also show up, but that might be awkward given that he publicly supported the Golden Knights during their series against the Capitals.

Oh, and the Wizards may make an appearance too, though don’t expect much from Bradley Beal.
Deputy Mayor Kevin Donahue did intimate on Twitter that Washington, D.C.-area employees would need a sick day next week for a parade, so we’re going off that for now:
Parade details
The parade will begin at 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday, and all the details are right here in terms of route. It begins at 17th Street and Constitution Avenue before concluding at 7th Street and the National Mall, per the Washington Post.
Congratulations, Capitals!
