The superfecta and the trifecta can be two of the most lucrative bets in horse racing. Here’s what they paid out at the 2018 Belmont Stakes.

To successful cash in a superfecta or trifecta bet, you have to correctly pick not only the four and three, respectively, top placing horses, you have to pick the correct order as well. And at a race like the 2018 Belmont Stakes, where one horse (ahem, Justify) is the far and away favorite, but the rest of the field is roughly wide open, that leaves a lot of room to make bold, high stakes bets with potentially huge pay-offs.

Those who chose to put money on a Justify-Gronkowski-Hofburg-Vino Rosso superfecta won a cool $1,051.50 on a $1 bet. Those who were only confident enough in the first three took home $229.74 on a $1 trifecta bet.

On Saturday morning, the odds in the Belmont Stakes field looked like this:

1. Justify (Mike Smith), 4-5
2. Free Drop Billy (Robby Albarado), 30-1
3. Bravazo (Luis Saez), 8-1
4. Hofburg (Irad Ortiz Jr.), 9-2
5. Restoring Hope (Florent Geroux), 30-1
6. Gronkowski (Jose Ortiz), 12-1
7. Tenfold (Victor Espinoza), 12-1
8. Vino Rosso (John Velazquez), 30-1
9. Noble Indy (Javier Castellano), 12-1
10. Blended Citizen (Kyle Frey), 15-1

The winnings were better than most of the other Triple Crown bets this year. At the Derby, the trifecta paid out $141.40 on a $1 bet and the superfecta paid out $19,618.20 on a $1 bet. (So, the superfecta obviously much better there.) The trifecta and superfectas at the Preakness paid out $148.30 and $372.50 on $1 bets, respectively.

Compared to last year, the 2018 Belmont Stakes payouts was less lucrative. The 2017 Belmont Stakes, the superfecta paid out $2,243 on a $1 bet while the trifecta paid out $312 on a $1 bet.
