DraftKings Main MLB Picks June 9: Pitching is weak after Morton

We have an interesting Saturday slate today. Most of the games are early. The noon eastern first pitch of the Giants-Nationals game is lopped off of the early slate. If you want a piece of that one, you have to play the all day tournament. That means we are left with just four games in the evening DraftKings tournament. They haven’t classified a main one today.

Rain is unlikely tonight, and the only wind is a 12 mph wind in from right in Arlington. That still wont temper the power in that place.

We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!

These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. Stacking against a bad pitcher is always a good idea!

NEW YORK, NY – MAY 28: Domingo German #65 of the New York Yankees delivers a pitch in the first inning against the Houston Astros at Yankee Stadium on May 28, 2018 in the Bronx borough of New York City.MLB players across the league are wearing special uniforms to commemorate Memorial Day. Top Tier:

Charlie Morton ($12,400): The Rangers are only hitting .233 against Morton in 73 at bats with three homers and just five runs to go with a staggering 34 strikeouts. Now we see why Morton is so expensive! With only eight pitchers to choose from tonight, none have the upside of Morton. If you are playing the all day tournament, I can see a case for fading Morton. Tonight, it’s really tough to do, even trying to afford Coors hitters.

Middle Tier:

Domingo German ($8,500): German has not pitched well this year, so I’m not going to try and spin it like he has. This is more playing against the Mets offense than anything else. This is a hefty price to pay for a pitcher averaging under 10 DraftKings points per contest, so they make sure you are taking a sizeable risk here. Still, there is almost nothing in the middle if you are fading Morton. This is as good as it gets, and it’s only because German is playing the Mets.

Bargain Pitchers:

I dislike this entire lower tier. This is a very tough slate since the only two pitchers that I really believe in suck up way too much salary to use any of the big hitters that we have out there. If I’m really reaching into this group, Anibal Sanchez probably has the most upside considering the Braves could beat up on Wood. Matt Koch is the next most solid. You couldn’t pay me to use Bettis or Minor, and Matz against the Yankees has bad news written all over it.

Houston Astros vs. Mike Minor:

Somehow, Minor has good career numbers against the Astros. Kind of. The Stros are only hitting .211 against Minor, but they do have ten runs in only 57 at bats. There is a lot of right handed power in this lineup, but surprisingly, Yuli Gurriel is the only one to take Minor deep so far. That’s going to change in Arlington. I’m a huge fan of George Springer and Evan Gattis again. Altuve and Carlos Correa are definitely worth a look as well. Alex Bregman has homered in two straight games, so you can’t count him out either.

New York Yankees vs. Steven Matz:

The Yankees are hitting .325 against Matz with three homers and ten runs in just 40 at bats. This could get ugly! Giancarlo Stanton has two of the three homers and four of the ten RBI. Gary Sanchez owns a three run blast against Matz. Brett Gardner and Didi Gregorius are a combined 5-12 with three RBI against Matz despite not having the platoon advantage. Tyler Austin is worth a look here as well.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Chad Bettis:

Arizona is hitting .316 with a homer and 13 runs in only 76 at bats against Bettis. Paul Goldschmidt needs to be in your lineup. Goldy is 8-20 with three doubles, a homer, a triple, and eight RBI. Nick Ahmed and David Peralta have the other homers. Even though Jake Lamb is just 1-14 against Bettis, he does have three RBI. I like Ketel Marte and Chris Owings here as well.

Atlanta Braves vs. Alex Wood:

Wood has hit a rough patch for pretty much the entire 2018 campaign. The Braves have tagged Wood for a .385 average in 52 at bats with a homer and nine runs with just six strikeouts. Freddie Freeman has the homer, of course. Nick Markakis and Tyler Flowers are both 5-8 against Wood. Dansby Swanson and Ozzie Albies are certainly worth a look too.

Top Tier:

I don’t know that I’m going to stack against Matt Koch. I much prefer the Diamondbacks side of this. However, Charlie Blackmon and CarGo are worth a look here. Maybe Story and Arenado if you can afford them. Koch does have a 2.03 ERA on the road this year, but Coors Field isn’t your average road stadium.

The Dodgers may as well have been hitting off of a tee last night, and it wont get any better for the Braves tonight with Anibal Sanchez on the mound. Bellinger and Matt Kemp are worth using again tonight. I like Chris Taylor and Yasmani Grandal again as well.

Middle Tier:

I like Brandon Nimmo a lot tonight, but I don’t really trust any more of this offense. Jay Bruce and Amed Rosario are worth a look against German. He is either going to be really good or really bad. There doesn’t seem to be an in between for German this year.

Bargain Shoppers:

You can chase homers against Charlie Morton since the Rangers do have three of them despite not much else. Adrian Beltre, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Ronald Guzman are the three with homers. Thinking about Gallo? Don’t. Gallo is 0-12 with 11 strikeouts against Morton. Where is that lowball business when you need it?
