4. Sammy Watkins will lead the team in receiving yards

Make no mistake about it, the Chiefs decision to hand Watkins a three-year, $48 million deal was widely panned by pundits around the NFL. There’s a ton of pressure on the former Clemson wideout to finally realize his potential in 2018.

The good news is that he’s still an electric athlete. He might not be the most cerebral player on the team, but he’s got plenty of God-given ability. It’s a good bet that Andy Reid can find a way to get the most out of a player with such prodigious talent.

Don’t expect Watkins to lead the Chiefs in catches, but his ability to make big plays down the field could allow him to put up a massive season in terms of yards. Watkins’ career high came in his sophomore season in Buffalo where he put up a respectable total of 1,047. He’s going to need to push well past that for the Chiefs this year.

Look for Watkins to put up about 1,200 yards on the campaign. That still won’t justify the massive contract the Chiefs awarded him, but it will make the team’s offense very dangerous. His goal in Kansas City should be to strike fear in the hearts of safeties all over the NFL. Expect he and Mahomes to connect enough times to give him a career year.
