MLB DFS Bargain Bin: Tout Transparency Report for Monday, June 11
Before we get to today’s recommendations, we’ll look back at how Monday’s MLB DFS Bargain Bin play suggestions did in the MLB DFS Bargain Bin Tout Transparency Report.
In the interest of transparency and of tracking trends, I’ll do a quick review after each day in which I suggest value plays to see what went right, and what didn’t exactly work out as planned.
Monday, Wade LeBlanc gave us a bit of a scare early by giving up homers to Mike Trout and Albert Pujols in the first inning before impressively settling down. Unfortunately, the high pitch count he built up in that opening frame ultimately helped limit him to just five innings, but he closed out his start in sensational fashion by striking out Justin Upton with the bases loaded. It was an extension of the struggles Upton’s career struggles against LeBlanc, which I’d alluded to yesterday.
I rolled out a bit of a different format for the Bargain Bin yesterday that I’ll utilize from time to time, one that focused on three potentially vulnerable pitchers and specific metrics in their profile that appear worthwhile to target with some cheap bats. At least for one night, the numbers were by and large an accurate indicator, as the majority of suggested plays that were in their lineups enjoyed success to some degree.
Even the two alternatives I suggested on Twitter (@jcblanco22) – Jedd Gyorko and Jackie Bradley, Jr. – made contributions, with Gyorko’s belting yet another homer against his former Padres squad.
MLB DFS Bargain Bin: Tout Transparency Report for Monday, June 11
MLB DFS Bargain Bin Best Value(s):
Gyorko, Chisenhall make noise–As just alluded to, Gyorko smacked a solo blast, although it came in the eighth inning of reliever Phil Hughes as opposed to starter Jordan Lyles. Meanwhile, Chisenhall delivered some very nice returns on a minuscule price, even as the Indians as a whole somewhat underwhelmed in a plum matchup against Lucas Giolito.
MLB DFS Bargain Bin Biggest Dud(s):
More from FanSided
- Cardinals Rumors: Surprise extension, Dylan Carlson-Yankees link, Rays trade idea
- USWNT vs. Vietnam: Key takeaways before they take on the Dutch
- NFL rumors: 49ers trending toward contract drama with defensive star
- Steelers avoid any camp drama with latest roster move
- MLB Rumors: Potential Braves reunion, Lance Lynn no-trade clause and Orioles deadline intentions
Celebrating a no-dud night– It was one of those slates where every suggestion contributed something, as even Twitter pivot suggestion Jackie Bradley, Jr. gave the Red Sox a late insurance run in extras with a sacrifice fly to plate another suggested play, Rafael Devers.

With our look back now complete, time to turn our attention to finding bargains for today’s slates!
Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the MLB DFS Bargain Bin, where the goal is to provide a general overview of the night’s 15-game ledger and touch on where the weakest pitching spots might be, and by extension, where there may be some value bats to consider. Additionally, I’ll look to identify where a value arm might be intersecting with an offense that’s running cold or is otherwise inefficient against a certain handedness.
Before we go bargain hunting, a few particulars about both format and content:
- The nature of the beast with value plays is at least a modest amount (and sometimes substantially more) of risk. After all, these players are usually priced where they are for a reason. Therefore, the Bargain Bin may prove to be a bit more of a roller coaster ride on some slates than your typical “tout” article!
- Naturally, that doesn’t mean there isn’t upside to be had. All of these selections are therefore suitable for GPPs (and usually avoidable for cash games), and they can often help you accommodate multiple higher-priced studs into your lineup.
- Typically, I’ll suggest players that are value-priced across all four major DFS sites (Yahoo, FanDuel, DraftKings and FantasyDraft). However, there are certainly occasions, particularly with Yahoo, where one site prices a player significantly lower than others. Whenever possible, I’ll typically at least note those players as a “XYZ site-only special”.
- On occasions when FanDuel lists a player at a different position than the other sites, I’ll note it in the player’s entry.
- This version of the Bargain Bin isn’t a position-by-position breakdown. Rather, I try to identify where there is a particular vulnerability in terms of pitchers on the slate. Naturally, the amount of pitchers I suggest to target and the corresponding amount of value hitters to target them with will vary by slate.
- The goal is to recommend truly affordable players, as opposed to, say, a player priced just $300-$400 away from the highest-priced option at his position. I don’t have set-in-stone price limits in mind for each site, but I do consider legitimate affordability a very important criteria.
With those housekeeping items out of the way, let’s take a look at where there’s cash to be saved on Tuesday’s MLB Slate!:
Value Pitching Spot to Consider
Jaime Garcia, TOR at TAM- Yahoo ($30)/ FanDuel ($6,200)/ DraftKings ($6,100)/ FantasyDraft ($11,900)
True value pitchers can be a roll of the dice sometimes, but we’ve had solid success so far with the likes of Hector Santiago, Eric Lauer, Danny Duffy, Clayton Richard and Wade LeBlanc. The one common denominator among them is their handedness, as team batting metrics against southpaws have largely proven out so far.
We’ll therefore go back to the well with Garcia tonight against a Rays team that’s generated a paltry .191 average, .239 wOBA and 52 wRC+ versus lefties at home over the last month of play (193 plate appearances). Moreover, they’re ranked in the bottom 10 in flyball rate (29.7 percent) versus southpaws at the Trop over that span as well, certainly a help to Garcia, who does tend to struggle with the long ball.
Make no mistake, there’s risk here, especially considering Garcia has been much better in his home park. However, he’s helped by the fact that Tropicana Field ranks in the bottom 10 in park factor as well (0.897) and bottom five in home-run rate (.0812). What’s more, Garcia does have a quality start on the road in his recent past (May 26 against the Phillies) and he also stymied the Orioles in his home park the last time out over six innings, giving him two strong outings in his last three trips to the mound.
