2. Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers need to improve their starting pitching and the Brewers are built to compete for the next few years. Need more be said?

The Brewers don’t have a bonafide ace on their staff and are going to need someone in the role for the playoffs. Someone who can go toe-to-toe with the best starter the other team has and keep their team in the ballgame even when the offense is unable to muster as many runs as usual. By bringing in deGrom, they get that pitcher they need, and they get him for the next couple of years. With Lorenzo Cain, Christian Yelich, and Travis Shaw all staying in Milwaukee for that time period, the Brewers will have the offense they need to back up deGrom. Josh Hader and Corey Knebel will still be able to hold the leads that deGrom gets them.

So, with deGrom being the missing piece between the Brewers and a truly complete roster, they need to make sure they get him. Even if they don’t have Lewis Brinson or Monte Harrison to trade anymore, they need to make it happen. The trade would probably have to center around Keston Hiura and Corbin Burnes. This would cost the Brewers the only 2 prospects they have in the MLB.com top 100. That shouldn’t be something that bothers the Brewers right now. As mentioned before, they are going to be competitive for the next 2+ years and shouldn’t worry about losing prospects.
